Health benefits

Poppy seed is rich in linoleic acids.
It has the property of softening the throat and alleviating the cough.
It has relaxing properties that help treat insomnia and nervous breakdowns.
It is antispasmodic and mildly hypnotic.
It acts against overstimulation.

They contain many phytochemicals that have been found to have antioxidant activity
Their unique aromatic taste is due to the many fatty acids and essential oils that make up about 50% of their net weight. The seeds are particularly rich in oleic and linoleic acids. Oleic acid, a monounsaturated fatty acid, helps lower bad LDL cholesterol and raises good HDL levels in the blood. Research studies show that the Mediterranean diet, which is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, helps prevent coronary heart disease and stroke by promoting a healthy blood lipid profile.
The outer bark of the poppy seed is a good source of fiber. 100 grams of raw seeds provide 19.5 g or 51% of the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of fiber. Many of these fibers have a metabolically inert content that helps increase the volume of food by absorbing water in the digestive system and therefore, alleviating the problem of constipation.
In addition, dietary fiber binds bile (a product of cholesterol) and reduces their reabsorption in the large intestine. They thus contribute to a further reduction of LDL cholesterol levels in the blood.
It is a rich source of B vitamins such as thiamine, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, riboflavin, niacin and folic acid. Many of these vitamins act as cofactors in the metabolism of the substrate, especially fat and carbohydrates in the human body.
Poppy seeds contain sufficient amounts of minerals such as iron, copper, calcium, potassium, manganese, zinc and magnesium. Copper is used in the production of red blood cells. Zinc is a cofactor in many enzymes that regulate growth, sperm production, digestion and nucleic acid synthesis. Potassium is an important component of cells and body fluids that help control heart rate and blood pressure. The human body uses manganese as a cofactor for the important antioxidant enzyme, peroxide dismutase.
Dried poppy seeds contain very low levels of opium alkaloids such as morphine, thebaine, codene, papaverine, etc. When consumed in food, these compounds produce a minimal effect on the human nervous system. In contrast, these chemicals have been found to have some beneficial effects on the human body, soothing nervous irritability and acting as painkillers. The extracts of the seeds find application in medicinal preparations and in many traditional medicines for the treatment of cough, as expectorants, etc.
In Ayurveda it is believed that mouth ulcers can be caused due to excessive heat in the body. But eating poppy seeds, which are known to have a cooling effect on the body, helps relieve mouth ulcers naturally.
If you suffer from insomnia or fatigue, poppy seed milk extract mixed with sugar is a great way to combat these problems as poppy seeds contain compounds that help produce neurotransmitters.
Calcium, along with phosphorus, plays an important role in improving bone health. Poppy seeds also contain manganese which is known to help produce collagen, the protein that protects bones.
A common cause of a weakened immune system is a lack of zinc in the body. Eating poppy seeds, which are rich in zinc, helps strengthen the immune system.

Preparation of "poppy tea" decoction: boil 1 glass of water for 5-10 minutes with 1 tablespoon of seeds. Strain and we can add the decoction to some cold juice, chocolate drink, milk.

They can be used alone or combined with ginger, cardamom, fresh mint, cinnamon, allspice, clove, coriander, nutmeg, sesame and sumac.
They go well with baked goods, bread, breadsticks, cakes.
