Mountain tea contains a valuable arsenal of flavonoids, catechins, monoterpenes, diterpenes, triterpenic acids phenylpropenes, sterols, iridoids, essential oils, curcumin and caryophyllin. Many modern studies come to document the actions of these substances, which seem to be valuable to the human body. More specifically :
Osteoporosis
According to a study by the University of Athens, the extracts of Sideritis euboea and Sideritis clandestina can help prevent osteoporosis, as they have been shown to protect against bone loss and enhance bone strength.
Alzheimer's disease
According to a study by the Research Center for Neurological Diseases of the University of Magdeburg, it was found that Greek mountain tea has unique beneficial properties that act against the disease. It seems that mountain tea and specifically the species Sideritis scardica of Olympus affects the inhibition of reabsorption of substances in the brain, which process the transmission of messages from one brain cell to another (substances called neurotransmitters). Specifically, it was found that its daily systematic consumption for 6 months helps to reduce the symptoms to the levels that were the disease 9 months ago, and then stabilizes the patient's condition. The aim of this research team after the results of their study is the preparation of a medicinal product from Greek mountain tea and specifically from the species Sideritis scardica of Olympus.

Animal studies show that regular daily intake of the recommended daily dose of Sideritis extract leads to dilation-relaxation of blood vessels, thereby reducing blood pressure levels and reducing stress on the heart muscle. A research team of the Universities of Patras and Ioannina examined the decoction of the species Sideritis clandestina and found its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anxiolytic effects. Its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties are due to apigenin glycosides. In experiments performed on mice, it was found that the antioxidant defense of areas of the brain was strengthened, those who consumed for 6 weeks a decoction of mountain tea. In addition, it seemed to fight stress, ie it has an anxiolytic effect, without the side effects observed in other anxiolytic plant species.
Antimicrobial
Analyzes by Greek researchers, which have been done on sideritis plants, showed that they contain many essential oils with antimicrobial effect (against mainly Gram + germs but also against a specific line of the fungus Candida Albicans), while Evia tea showed activity against specific germs. antibiotics ampicillin and amikacin. Also, the essential oils of mountain tea and especially those of malotira (Sideritis syriaca) are particularly active antimicrobials, due to their carvacrol content.
Other actions
Antianemic (contains iron), anti-aging (due to its antioxidant components, it is an ingredient in care products such as anti-aging creams, hair masks, etc.), antispasmodic, diuretic, helps with good kidney function and acts preventively against the appearance of cataracts.
